About Me

Hi! I’m Ann from Twelve-In-Twelve. This blog started in January 2010, with the goal to run 12 5ks in 12 months. Honestly, I got the idea from a friend on Facebook who had recently completed the feat. “What a cool challenge”, I thought, “Although I probably won’t complete it.”

I did finish the goal of 12 5ks in 12 months, and learned some important lessons along the way. In 2011, I challenged myself to 12 races in 12 months, including 5ks, a 10k, a 10-mile, a half-marathon, and a Ragnar Relay. In 2012, I continued running races, including my 2nd half-marathon.

Now for the boring stuff: I’m a 28 year-old Human Resources Generalist who lives in St. Paul. I was born and raised a Minnesota girl, but moved away after college and lived in South and North Carolina for a few years. I met the love of my life, and we were married in June 2010:

June 12, 2010

Since October 2010, I’ve lost 50 pounds, and my husband (Jay) has lost over 50 pounds – together, that’s 100+. It’s been a lot of hard work, and a lot of struggles. I’m thankful to have him by my side during this journey and I make mention of him from time to time. And although I still have more weight until I reach that final “goal”, I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished so far!

My ultimate goal is to live a healthy, active lifestyle, and I am fortunate to have a great support system: family, friends, and other bloggers. I’m learning that losing weight and winning my life back isn’t just about eating healthy and exercising; it’s about tackling the emotional issues behind weight-loss.

My life’s motto is: “Life is not about ‘finding’ yourself; Life is about creating yourself.”

Join me in this journey of creating the person I want to become!

Although I pull motivation from a lot of different places, some of the most important motivation comes from inside myself. I think about motivating quotes or sayings throughout the day – when I’m tempted by an unhealthy food choice, when I’m pushing myself on the treadmil, or when I’m simply preparing myself for a successful day.

Here are some of my favorite quotes that have helped me along in my weight-loss journey:

“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” – Winston Churchill

” ‘Waste it’ or ‘Waist it’ ” – WW leader in North Carolina
