I’ve recently been inspired, motivated and called to action by a few amazing women in my life – Hannah, Brady, Erica, Anna and Nancy (my mom). Whether it’s being grateful for your legs that carry you, donating to a cause you believe in, or simply signing up for a race, we all have the power to make a difference.
I’ve found that some of the most rewarding connections I’ve made through blogging and social media have come when I stop talking, and start listening.
When I stop being selfish and start being selfless.
When I not only SAY, but DO.
Here are some of my favorite links -
Want a reason to be thankful?
Read Hannah’s blog. She is a marathon runner and recently suffered a medical set-back, a serious one, at that. Hannah talks about finding out her diagnosis and the steps going through a near-fatal experience. Reading Hannah’s story will make you think twice about skipping that workout today.
Want another reason to be thankful?
Read Brady’s blog. She is a runner training for a big fundraising marathon and was recently sidelined from running for at least 3 weeks. Brady talks about why “Running Sucks” and her plan to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
What to be motivated?
Read Erica’s blog. She has lost over 90 pounds and has documented her ups and downs along the way. Yesterday, she posted an incredibly honest and telling blog, Sometimes I Miss Being Invisible.
Besides being a total rockstar, Erica is one of the most positive, giving people I’ve ever met. She has started a Charity Water Campaign, Losing Weight for Water, where 100% of your donation directly funds clean water projects in developing nations. Click here for details.
Want to make a difference?
Read Anna’s blog. She is a friend from college who has witnessed, firsthand, the strength, hope and joy from her volunteer work with the Make A Wish foundation. She is calling for help from walkers and runners to sign up for the 2 mile walk/5k run on July 14th. Click for more details.
I wanted to take a minute and share these links with you. Not because I was asked. In fact, I asked Hannah, Brady, Erica and Anna for permission to share their sites and they said, “Who me? What for? Do you mean someone else….?” I think that the online community offers so many opportunities to truly make a difference. If you feel motivated or inspired by any one of these girls… please reach out and contact them.
